- Where are classes held?
Classes are held at the Calumet Township Indoor Range (110 Redjacket Rd, behind the Coliseum) - I don’t have a firearm to bring to the class, do you have one available for me to use?
Yes, I do have a firearm and ammunition you can use during the class. Having said that, if you own a firearm you would use to defend yourself, I recommend you bring it to the class so I can provide you with coaching to help you become more proficient with it. - How much ammunition will I need for the class?
The live fire portion of the class requires a minimum of 40 rounds of ammunition if you successfully complete all of the exercises and final stage on the first attempt, but I would recommend you bring more ammunition. - Can I attend if I have never used a firearm before?
Yes! I have had many brand-new shooters successfully complete the course. It is my goal to teach you what you need to know to be able to safely and effectively use a firearm. - Do I have to bring my own eye and ear protection?
No, I do have eye and ear protection you can use for the class, but if you have your own I recommend you bring it to the class. - How long is the class?
Classes are a minimum of 8 hours long (required by law). The classroom portion is 5 hours, and the range portion is 3 hours. - Do I need to bring anything to the class?
A willingness to learn; I can provide the rest. Drinks and a light lunch are provided, but if you prefer to have your own lunch, please bring it to class, as we eat lunch while the class is in progress. Also, for safety reasons, I ask that you wear closed-toe shoes and recommend long pants. The range/classroom is heated in the winter, but it may be a good idea to have warmer clothing as well. - How many students are in a class?
Class sizes are typically 10 students or less; I intentionally try to keep the classes small enough so that I am able to provide quality instruction to every student. - Your scheduled classes are only on Saturdays; do you offer classes during the week?
Weekday options are available, but I don’t schedule regular weekday classes due to low demand. Weekday classes are considered a private CPL class and are more costly, unless it is a class with 4 or more students. Please see my private lessons page for more details. - How do I get my CPL once I have completed the class?
Once you have completed the class, you will receive a certificate of completion. You will then take the class completion certificate and a concealed pistol license application to the county clerk in the county in which you reside. If you do not have a digitized photograph on file with the Michigan Secretary of State, you will need to provide a passport-quality photograph. You will also have to pay all applicable fees (for all applications, there is a $100.00 application and licensing fee payable to the county clerk). You will also need to have classifiable fingerprints taken by the county clerk, state police, sheriff’s office, local police agency, or other entity that provides fingerprinting services.
